Google Gets Sued By Viacom?

Viacom recently commenced proceedings to sue Google for $1 billion in damages for the unauthorised viewing of copyrighted clips on Google’s new investment, YouTube. Speculation has been made that Viacom is looking for nothing more than a better negotiating hand with Google for their licensing of content.

With the advent of social marketing and web 2.0, this is a landmark case on what is acceptable online and what is not, from a copyright perspective. But with so much copyrighted content being shared online each and every day, what effects will a win or lose for Google really mean to the end user? Only time will tell.
